Drop in trick tip

If you want to learn tricks in a minipipe or halfpipe, the first thing you need to learn is to drop in.

The technical part is easy, but your first drop in can be a little scary.

(Video by Sandro)

  1. 1

Start on top of the ramp, put your board down over the edge. Let your back truck lean against the coping.

Put your back foot firmly on the tail and keep your front foot over the front bolts, but don't press it down yet.

  2. 2

Stomp your front foot down so your four wheels are touching the ramp.

At the same time, lean into the ramp so the board doesn't slide from underneath you.

But don't lean forward too much, a faceplant is worse than falling on your butt.

  3. 3

Follow the curve of the ramp and simply ride down on all four wheels.

  4. 4

Now you have enough speed to do a trick on the other side of the ramp, but if you're just learning this you can just jump off.

Tips

  • Start on a low ramp, don't be afraid, just go for it.

  • You can wear a helmet and pads if you don't feel safe.

  • If you fall just get up and try again.
